Biography

Born into a family of literature,from childhood Sonroopa realized her affection towards poetry and ghazals.she received Inspiration to write poems  from her father.She has done Ph.D. in Hindi. From childhood she was  fond of music,she  initially started learning ghazals by hearing the legendary  singers.she did not  learn music formally as Guru Shishy Parampara but wherever she felt to be learned from the masters she tried to work on her singing, currently she is learning nuances of ghazal under the guidance of renowned classical singer Ghazal Ustad Sakhavat Hussian khan.
 
Her voice entices audience because of the emotions, expressions and soulfulness. Sonroopa has had the opportunity to present solo performance and to be a part of prominent works at some of the most prestigious cultural space in India and abroad .including the Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Mauritius.
 
She was awarded the Kala shri Award 2012 in Mauritius for her contribution in the field of literature and singing .she was also given 'Udbhav Vishisht', 'Badaun Garima','Yuva Ratn' awards. She is An empanelled artiste with the Indian Council for Cultural Relation (ICCR) and Indian world cultural forum,an artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan.Her first audio album of ghazal was Aapka Sath recorded by Prime music company,which received  praise very much. Her book of ghazals named Likhna Zaroori hai will be published soon. 
 
Sonroopa has performed for various television channels,some of her recent stage performances include sangeet Nraty utsav by Indian world cultural forum in Delhi at habitat center 'Faiz Aur Majaz' 'Shakhsiyat Aur Shayari'  by All India Radio 'Sham-e-Ghazal' in Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Mauritius, Poetic perfomance on sab t.v. in the program 'wah wah kya baat hai'.
She is passionate about Ghazals and Poetry.  She expresses her  thoughts through her  poetry and through her singing which her inner soul expresses , according to her- Music & poetry  take me up in the heavenly space so I respect and enjoy music & poetry in my life too much.
